Terri Vieira achieves FACHE distinction

TVieiraSebasticook Valley Health (SVH) recently announced that Teresa Vieira, SVH President and CEO/EMHS Senior Vice President, recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders. Ms. Vieira has over 40 years of progressive healthcare leadership, having served SVH since 2000 and was appointed in 2013 as its President and CEO and senior vice president for Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS).

Ms. Vieira has been instrumental in several hospital accomplishments over the past 15 years: since 2002, she helped SVH achieve and sustain accreditation from the Joint Commission; she oversaw SVH’s designation as a critical access hospital in 2005; and she has provided tireless leadership and support of various hospital expansions that include the Outpatient and Women’s Health Center in 2001, expanded Surgical Services in 2004, and the recent hospital expansion in 2013 that included a new inpatient wing.

Ms. Vieira is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine, where she received a master’s degree in health administration.

The Fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) credential requires a rigorous set of criteria that includes academic preparation, healthcare management experience, tenure as an ACHE affiliate, passing the Board of Governors Examination in Healthcare Management, continuing education, references, and community and civic involvement. The FACHE credential signifies a healthcare leader with a specific level of expertise, experience, and commitment to continuing education and professional development. The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) is an international professional society whose members lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations.

The ACHE mission is to advance healthcare management excellence through high ethical standards, pertinent knowledge, and a relevant credentialing program. The organization is known for promoting the values of integrity, lifelong learning, leadership and diversity in healthcare executives through its ongoing educational programs, its annual Congress on Healthcare Leadership, and career development and public policy programs. According to ACHE.org, only 9,100 healthcare executives have achieved this high standard of professional development.

Accredited by the Joint Commission, SVH comprises a progressive 25-bed, critical access hospital with a wide range of outpatient services throughout the region. SVH is a member of Eastern Maine Healthcare System (EMHS).
