Surgical Services

SVH offers leading edge surgical care close to home with over 115 types of surgeries and surgical procedures to the residents of Sebasticook Valley. The surgeons and medical staff working in our state-of-the-art surgical area work closely with primary-care physicians and specialists to effectively manage care for patients with various diseases, injuries and conditions.

Currently over 14 surgeons perform many surgeries and surgical procedures at SVH each year on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Below is a general listing of the types of surgical services we provide to patients who are referred to SVH by their primary care provider or specialist.

Endoscopic Procedures
Using a flexible tube with a camera at its tip, surgeons can inspect the stomach (gastroscopy) and large intestine (colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy) for early signs of disease.

Eye
SVH offers phacoemulsification (or Phaco) as a surgical technique used to remove cataracts, which are clouding of the eye’s naturally clear lens. We also perform eyelid surgery (called blepharoplasty).

General Surgery
We perform approximately fifty types of general surgeries (elective and critical) in our state-of-the-art surgical suites on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Our surgical staff includes highly experienced surgeons and registered nurses/support personnel who care for patients coming to SVH for procedures like laparascopic cholecystectomies, appendectomies, and hernia repairs; endrocrine surgery; breast surgery and biopsies; abdominal surgery; bowel surgery; and endoscopic procedures.

Some of these procedures include total joint replacements (knee and hip), fracture care, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, athroscopies (knee and shoulder), hand surgery, carpal tunnel release, rotator cuff surgical care, foot, ankle and calcaneal (heel) procedures, sprains and strains, trauma surgery, and treatment of sports-related injuries.

Podiatry
We perform a wide range of services in the treatment and care of the foot and toe nails, from bunion correction and hammertoe repairs to toe nail excision and osteotomies.

Urology
SVH provides a wide range of diagnostic and urologic treatment services as well as care care for infertility, impotence and incontinence (bladder leakage). Typical procedures include (but are not limited to) circumcision, vasectomy and vasectomy reversal, penile implants, cystoscopy, and orchiectomy.
