2015 Best Places to Work in Maine

Nokomis Alternative Ed Grows Innovation

When Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) was awarded a Kohl’s Cares grant last fall, SVH created a plan to use the funds to educate and promote access to fresh, local produce grown by area youth and families. Earlier this year, seven organizations and schools signed on to create garden-based lessons that encourage students to discover the benefits of healthy eating, learn about local food, and explore the science behind farming.

MCI Uses Solar Energy to Grow Produce

As a way to encourage growing and eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, Maine Central Institute (MCI) in Pittsfield is using grant money awarded by the Kohl’s Cares program to erect a solar greenhouse on the high school campus. MCI is one of seven local area schools that are creating garden-based curriculum to encourage students to discover the benefits of healthy eating, learn about local food, and explore the science behind farming. The program is managed locally by Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH).

SVH recognized as "Most Wired Hospital"

Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) recently learned that SVH and two other Maine hospitals - Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital (Greenville) - have been recognized as “Most Wired—Small and Rural” for 2015 by Health Care’s Most Wired, which is sponsored by Hospitals & Health Networks (HHN).

Growing Innovation with SVH and Kohl's

Coordinated by SVH, the Kohl’s Cares About ME program supports community and school-based gardens, integrates gardening curriculum in schools, and increases access to healthy foods for Maine kids and families through partnerships with Maine farms. One hundred percent of the net profit from Kohl’s Cares merchandise sold in local Kohl’s stores supports this program.

SVH Golf Tournament Raises Money for Courtesy Van

Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) held its 15th Annual Golf Tournament and Auction on July 25, 2015, to benefit the SVH Courtesy Van Service. This year’s event raised $45,666.00. The van service provides a way for our patients to get to appointments within the SVH service areas, often meaning the difference between obtaining the needed health care or no health care.

Mock Disaster Drill a Success

Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) held an unannounced mock disaster on June 7, which was a staged multi-victim car crash involving teen drivers. With participation from two Newport teens, the hospital’s Ambulance Services and Emergency Department teams stepped up to efficiently and effectively respond to the drill. 

BLS Training for Providers

Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) is offering Health Care Provider BLS training on Friday, August 23, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM at its conference room on 130 Leighton Street in Pittsfield. This class is for health care professionals who are required to have a Healthcare Provider Certification.

Heartsaver Class Offered on August 5th

In August, Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) will offer Heartsaver Infant/Child/Adult CPR and AED class at its conference room on 130 Leighton Street in Pittsfield. The training is scheduled for Monday, August 5th from 5:30-9:00 PM. Cost is $30.00.

Valley Arts Alliance Displays Spring Artwork at SVH

Members of the Valley Arts Alliance installed the second exhibit in a series of four installations at Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) in Pittsfield. SVH and Valley Arts Alliance are partnering to provide a rotating exhibit for the enjoyment of staff, visitors and patients alike.
