Mock Disaster Drill a Success
Release Date:
Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) held an unannounced mock disaster on June 7, which was a staged multi-victim car crash involving teen drivers. With participation from two Newport teens, the hospital’s Ambulance Services and Emergency Department teams stepped up to efficiently and effectively respond to the drill.
The local teens, Josh Perry and Josh Emery, with SVH employee, Julia Sobey, volunteered as victims and made the drill as “authentic” as possible. With make-up and other props, the drill victims provided an accurate representation of how accident victims look and act when arriving to the emergency department for care. Others who participated in the mock disaster were Amanda White, Amanda Perry Stitham, Julia Sobey, Morgan Ricker, L’Easa Blaylock, Laurine Ferrar, Damion Walston, Joseph Dessent DO, Lorren Thurston, and Chief Nursing Officer Charles Klein, who served as incident commander.
SVH CEO Terri Vieira commented, “Drills help the hospital staff troubleshoot and prepare for actual critical events that happen infrequently in our community. Our staff enjoyed working with the boys, whose energetic personalities added levity to what could have been a very serious event.”
Accredited by the Joint Commission, SVH comprises a progressive 25-bed critical access hospital with a wide range of outpatient services throughout the region. SVH is a proud member of EMHS. Contact marketing manager Jennifer Yarbrough at (207) 487-4024 for more information.
