Fifth Annual Duck Race scheduled for Aug. 6th
Release Date:
07/08/2015
Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) encourages everyone to participate in its Fifth Annual Duck Race on Thursday, August 6th, from 5 to 7pm at Manson Park in Pittsfield. Children of all ages can watch the race, play duck-related games, and enjoy delicious snacks to benefit breast cancer care at the SVH Women’s Health Center in Pittsfield.
SVH President and CEO/EMHS Senior Vice President Terri Vieira stated, “Every year, the duck race is a fun event for families and a great way for SVH to raise money and awareness for Women’s Health at our hospital. The money we raise at the race and at the breast cancer awareness walk in October provide access for women who do not have the financial means to receive breast care services.”
As always, yellow and blue ducks are $5 each, pink ducks are $10, and the first duck to cross the finish line wins a cash prize. This year, there will be additional cash prizes for two random duck race participants. Net proceeds from the Duck Race benefit SVH’s Nancy Stone Breast Fund, which provides breast health services for women in need. Last year’s entertaining event drew several families who came out to watch hundreds of brightly colored rubber ducks speed down Sebasticook River to the finish line (and into the nets of SVH employees tasked with fishing them out of the water). Last year’s race event raised $3,000.
The ducks will be launched from the Hunnewell Avenue Bridge, and the first duck to cross the finish line wins for the person who rents that duck. This year, the Darling’s Ice Cream truck will be available to sell ice cream, with all net profits going to the Nancy Stone Fund.
