
Sebasticook Valley Hospital (SVH) President/CEO John C. May recently announced that Rehabilitation Services Director Pierre Rougny, PT, OCS, MTC, recently achieved board certification as a clinical specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Rougny is one of three physical therapists who became clinically certified in Maine this year.
"We are very proud of Pierre's achievement that has resulted from his tireless efforts as a leader and vital resource to rehabilitation care in our community," stated Mr. May. "With his efforts in managing two rehabilitation offices in Newport and Pittsfield, coupled with his commitment to patients at SVH every day, Pierre's work in acquiring this recent professional development is nothing short of extraordinary."
To obtain board certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in a specialty area as well as successfully complete a rigorous written examination to demonstrate specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in a specialty area of physical therapy practice. According to the ABPTS, there currently are twenty-six orthopedic certified specialists working in Maine and over four thousand in the United States.
Pierre has been employed by Sebasticook Valley Hospital since 1998, where he began as a physical therapist and advanced to director of rehabilitation services in 2004. Pierre manages seventeen employees in SVH Rehabilitation Services and has been instrumental in expanding rehabilitation services to Newport in 2006.
SVH is a 25-bed critical access hospital located in Pittsfield and is a member of EMHS.
