As the demand for Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) physicians' services and Audiology services have increased at Sebasticook Valley Hospital (SVH), the need for expanded patient care space became necessary. Hospital President/CEO John C. May announced that beginning this month, all ENT clinic visits and Audiology visits will take place at SVH's 72 North Road, Detroit location. The services were previously housed at two separate locations on the SVH campus.
The Detroit medical office allows ENT specialists, physicians who are trained in the medical and surgical treatment of the ears, nose, throat and related structures of the head and neck to see patients in expanded space. Erwin Seywerd, MD and William Diehl, MD provide ENT services at SVH. ENT surgeries will continue to be performed at the SVH Surgical Suite. ENT is the oldest medical specialty in the United States and typically handle adenoidectomies (removal of the adenoids), tonsillectomies, nosebleeds, earaches, hearing loss, dizziness, hoarseness, sinus disease, hearing disorders, infections, balance disorders, management of disorders of the outer and inner ear, disorders of the nasal cavity, allergies, diseases of the larynx (voice box) and esophagus, including problems with swallowing.
Audiology services, provided through Sparkes Hearing Services will also be available at the Detroit location. The hearing booth (a specially designed sound proof room with calibrated equipment) has been moved from the SVH Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield to Detroit so all services can be housed under one roof for one-stop Ear, Nose, Throat, Audiology Services. Having these two complementary services under one roof is an added patient convenience.
An Audiologist is a professional who diagnoses, treats and manages hearing loss or balance problems. Hearing services are available for people of all ages. Testing is also a requirement for some occupations where the goal is the prevention of hearing loss. Sparkes Hearing Services also sells and services hearing aid devices.
