| SVH Joins EMHS Together Project |
| |
| Sebasticook Valley Hospital (SVH) President/CEO John C. May recently announced that the Pittsfield hospital will be sharing clinical and business applications with other hospitals within the Eastern Maine Healthcare System (EMHS). This development is the result of an EMHS program entitled “The Together Project,” which will standardize information systems at all member hospitals throughout Maine. Currently, CA Dean, Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC), Inland Hospital, The Acadia Hospital, and The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC) are using the same information systems that SVH plans to implement this summer, with Blue Hill Memorial Hospital joining later this year.
“We’re very excited to be involved in the Together Project,” stated Mr. May. “The Together Project will enable SVH to work more efficiently and provide enhanced care and safety to our patients. The implementation will put electronic records at the fingertips of SVH caregivers as well as other clinical employees at member hospitals in a manner that protects patient confidential medical information. So if an SVH patient presents at another hospital for care, that patient’s confidential medical record is instantly accessible to caregivers to treat them. Not only will SVH work more efficiently, we’re hoping our greatest benefit will be saving the lives of our patients.”
Mr. May explained that standardization of clinical systems enables patient information to be available when and where it’s needed to support clinical decisions no matter where the patient seeks care in the EMHS organization. “This standardization of clinical systems focuses on patient safety, quality, efficiency and cost savings. In the era of ATMs and online banking, many people are accustomed to centralized, confidential personal information. When this implementation occurs, SVH will be able to offer that level of service to our patients as well.”
Training will begin for SVH caregivers later this summer and fall, with a “go live” date scheduled for October 1, 2006. Other business systems, which also fall under the Together Project implementation including Lawson Finance, Material and Fixed Assets, began transitioning to new systems this spring. The final stage of Phase I of the Together Project will culminate with the implementation of the Lawson HR and Payroll and API Time and Attendance systems in 2007. “Since SVH is not the first hospital to implement these systems, we can gain resources and experiences from other member hospitals to ensure our transition will be easier for our employees and patients.”
SVH is a JCAHO-accredited 25-bed critical access hospital operating in Pittsfield, Maine. In 2000, SVH joined EMHS as a strategic affiliate, becoming a member hospital in 2001. SVH offers a continuum of care services to residents in sixteen communities in central Maine.
