Sebasticook Valley Hospital (SVH) President/CEO John C. May recently announced that the hospital’s new HealthPass card, which was introduced to patients earlier this year, has been successful in streamlining the registration process at the hospital and any SVH location where patients receive care.
According to Mr. May, “Each HealthPass is printed with the patient’s name and a barcode of his or her SVH medical record number. When a patient arrives at any SVH office/location for care, the HealthPass card is presented at the front desk. The barcode on the card is scanned and the patient’s current medical information is retrieved, which saves patients’ time spent providing or verifying their basic registration information, and more importantly, protects patient privacy.”
Since the introduction of HealthPass in January 2008, SVH has been providing HealthPass cards to patients who come to SVH for care. The hospital plans to add a HealthPass kiosk in the hospital lobby at a later date.
“The HealthPass is yet another way that SVH continues to respond to patient requests for enhanced patient safety, streamlined processes, and optimal patient care,” added Mr. May. He noted that HealthPass is a result of the hospital’s membership in the EMHS Together We’re Stronger program, which upgraded all patient medical records to a fully computerized information system that is accessed throughout Maine by EMHS member healthcare providers. This access to medical information, regardless of where the patient seeks care, enhances patient safety and increases positive patient outcomes.
