The Fifteenth Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, which was held on October 21, 2006, at the Sebasticook Valley Hospital (SVH) Women’s Health Center, netted over $13,500 for the Pittsfield hospital and the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC). Both SVH and MBCC will use the funds for education and services for women seeking care in Maine.
Approximately one hundred walkers took to the streets to raise money and awareness of breast cancer services in the area. This year’s top fundraisers were Corinna’s Healing Hearts team, which raised $4,845 in pledges. Other top team fundraisers were SVH ($2,697), Kleinschmidt Associates ($1,738), Cianbro ($1,372.50), and Curves ($1254.25). The top individual fundraising winner was Sharon Swett, who brought in $1,300. For three years in a row, Mrs. Swett has raised the most money for an individual walker for this important event.
SVH wishes to thank all the businesses and organizations that supported this annual event, as well as the walkers and those who pledged them. With the funds raised, the SVH Women’s Center will continue to offer over fifty free mammograms for women who have no insurance and are referred by a healthcare provider, and the MBCC will continue to offer support to women with breast cancer and their families.
