On Thursday, May 31, Sebasticook Valley Hospital is offering the first of four free events throughout the summer designed specifically for women. The first event features local surgeon Wassim Mazraany MD, FACS, speaking on "Breast Cancer Facts for Life," which includes information on breast disease and conditions, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Dr. Mazraany's talk begins at 5 pm in the SVH Cianchette Conference Room, and American Sign Language services will be available.
Other events offered this summer include "Summer Safety" on June 28th with Sebasticook Regional Walk-In Care's James Baldwin, DO, and SVH's Director of Emergency Services Don Charlson, RN-C, MS, discussing key warning signs of summer ailments like sunburn, dehydration, heatstroke, sunstroke, skin cancer, insect bites, poison control and simple first aid; "Heart Health" on August 23rd with Newport Family Practice's Carol Armatis, MD, and SVH's Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse Alycia Allen, BSN, discussing gender differences with heart attack signs and symptoms and healthy habits to avoid cardiac illness; and "Menopause and Osteoporosis" on September 27th with Sebasticook Regional Family Care's Emily Cianchette, FNP-C, MSN, discussing the diagnosis and treatment of these women's health issues.
Also offered at these free events are tours of the SVH Women's Health Center, free health screenings, heart-healthy meals, and much more from 3 to 5 pm. Participants are asked to RSVP as soon as possible to 487-5141 ext. 491. |
